Aside from the awesome fact that Dickies are tough work pants that won't wear out, I've always had the nagging problems with the sizing & fit. My first pair of 36x30 874's were too tight because I forgot to size up accordingly. I went to 38x30 and they fit better, but there's still constriction at the crotch & seat if you don't adjust your pants right before sitting down. I ceased to wear the loose-fit double-knee pants because my boss said they weren't dressy enough. So thus began the search for pants that 1) wouldn't wear out, 2) looked dressy, 3) fit right, and 4) didn't cost too much. Two days ago, I accidentally splashed bleach all over my 874's while cleaning the parking lot and didn't notice until the stains set in an hour later. Talks with my mom deduced that my 874's weren't worth dyeing black again at the price and amount of labor needed. I had these Slim-Taper Stretch-twill pants in the back of my mind, but now that I'm over the age of 25, I'm always skeptical of new trends, especially that CASTRATING skinny trend going on right now. I decided to take a shot at the Slim-tapers since my 874's have slightly big leg openings, and hoped that the Slim-tapers weren't TOO skinny. Thanks to Amazon prime, the package was ordered late Monday afternoon and came in early Wednesday afternoon just in time before evening church services.I tried these on, and MAN. What an IMPROVEMENT over the 874's! First off, I'm neither slim nor skinny - at 5'7" and 190lbs, I'm definitely shorter and huskier than your average metro-trendy-looking dude on the market. In 38x30, which just so happens to be one of the last sizes you can order in, these pants are COMFORTABLE. These don't grab your crotch or seat unlike those thieving 874's! The fit on these is perfect as well - the waist sits well, and the legs taper down just enough so you look slim enough to be proper, but not baggy enough to hide a shotgun down your pant legs? And did I mention that the fabric feels SMOOTHER than your average 874? It's easier to break-in, I guess. This is a plus for those of us that must walk a lot for our work.I'm not exactly sure why people don't like the cellphone pocket. I don't use it for my cellphone myself, but most Dickies pockets are SMALL compared to other pockets on other pants that I have. It's a great pen pocket when your main right-handed front pocket is stuffed with your wallet and your left pocket with your keys!Price is a little higher than 874's and the loose-fit double-knee (price + CA sales PENALTY came out to about $25). But hey, if the price of Dickies pants is always fixed and they fit better, what hurt can $2-3 extra dollars do over the course of several years?Bottom line: I'm DEFINITELY a fan. If you're tired of your 874's penalizing your pelvis, spend $2-3 extra on these Slim-tapers and get comfort and style for the best price!
